Rare deep-sea fish have been caught in photo shining like jewels.
Marine life photographer Joshua Lambus, 25, displayed pictures of rare fish living in waters deep off the coast of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
Lambus dived more than 400 times to get the unique images of squid, jellyfish and shrimp just a few centimeters away in “black water.”
"I wait until nightfall to head out 4.8km on a boat to take photos. I then turn off the engine and dive into the water," Lambers said. "On one occasion, Oceanic White-Tip Shark was swimming towards a female colleague," he said, recalling this dizzy happening.
He was able to dive deeper into the waters and took photos of fish with a variety of wonderful colors thanks to black darkness. "The colors are fantastic as they are naturally reflected from their pigmentation," he said.
Some of deep-sea inhabitants he runs into are rare enough not to have official names. He has become famous since he successfully took pictures of a small violet octopus, called tremoctopus, for the second time in the world.
보석처럼 빛나는 ‘초희귀 심해어’ 촬영 화제
깊은 바다에서 보석처럼 빛나는 희귀한 심해어들이 카메라에 포착됐다.
해양생물 전문 사진작가 조수아 램버스(25)는 하와이 카일루아-코나(Kailua-Kona) 심해에서 서식하는 희귀 해양 생명체들을 담은 사진들을 최근 공개했다.
사진에는 포착된 생물들은 주로 오징어와 해파리, 새우 등. 몇 센티미터밖에 되지 않은 작은 심해어들을 촬영하기 위해서 램버스는 400번 넘게 암흑 다이빙 촬영을 시도했던 것으로 전해졌다.
램버스는 “해질녘 보트를 타고 4.8km를 나가서 엔진과 모든 조명을 끈 채 어둠속에서 헤엄을 치며 촬영을 했다. 장완흉상어(Oceanic White-Tip Shark)와 맞닥뜨려 위기의 순간을 맞기도 했다.”고 아찔한 경험담을 털어놓기도 했다.
암흑 촬영 덕분에 램버스는 심해어에 보다 가까이 갈 수 있었으며, 아름다운 빛깔을 담아낼 수 있었다. 심해어들이 드러내는 신비로운 색깔은 이들이 가진 고유색소가 투영돼 드러난 것이다.
램버스가 발견한 심해어종 가운데 일부는 아예 공식명칭도 없는 초희귀한 생명체도 있었다. 또 세계에서 두 번째로 ‘트레목토푸스’(tremoctopus)라 불리는 작은 보라문어를 촬영에 성공해 화제를 모으기도 했다.
