The location of baseball’s 2012 Asian Series has been narrowed down to Seoul, Busan and Incheon.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), who will host the tournament this year, stated Wednesday that they have asked the three cities’ respective administrations for their cooperation and have initiated the judging process.
All the candidate cities have 25,000-plus capacity ballparks and have expressed a strong desire to host the event.
The KBO initially planned to hold the games in two cities but decided on just one due to a lack of human resources.
Korea, Japan, Australia, China and Taiwan are the five countries expected to participate this year, and the countries’ secretary-generals of their respective baseball organizations convened Monday and set the date for the series to begin on Nov. 11.
Six teams will participate. Korea can enter two two teams as the host and with one from each of the other countries.
The KBO expects the cost of the competition will be around 3 billion won and is currently looking for a sponsor.
