Striker Ji Dong-won scored twice to help South Korea to beat Uzbekistan 3-2, claiming third place in the Asian Cup and automatic berth for the 2015 tournament in Doha, Saturday (KST).
The third-place match was the last international match appearance for the teams veteran defender Lee Young-pyo with 127 match caps.
South Korea took the lead with midfielder Koo Ja-cheols opener in the 17th who celebrated his tournament-leading fifth goal.
Ji stepped up from then, doubling leading in the 26th and extending the margin 3-0 with a header in the 39th.
The Uzbeks cut the deficit 3-1 as Alexander Geynrikh converted a penalty earned by striker Olim Nokarov at the end of the first half. Nokarov tangled with South Korean defender Hwang Jae-won on the edge of the area.
Geynrikh scored his second goal of the match in the 53rd, unleashing a shot past goalie Jung Sung-ryong after turning defender Lee Jung-soo inside out.
After the win, the South Korea team tossed Lee and captain Park Ji-sung, who will also announce his status regarding retirement, into the air as part of their postgame celebrations.
I want to say they did remarkable job," South Korea manager Cho Kwang-rae said.
"It would be better if I could hold both of them in the national team. These players did an excellent job and the Korean fans want to congratulate them, he added.
