Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-sung is poised to return to action with the English club on Aug. 4 following a break after the 2010 World Cup in a preseason friendly against a League of Ireland XI.
Park’s appearance at the match in Dublin, along with fellow World Cup returnees such as striker Wayne Rooney follows a 28-day recovery period granted by team manager Alex Ferguson.
The 29-year-old Korean is currently at home, as Ferguson allowed those who represented their countries in South Africa time to recover, including Rooney and Michael Carrick of England, Patrice Evra of France, and Nemanja Vidic of Serbia. They are to report back to Old Trafford next Thursday.
The friendly is scheduled to celebrate the opening of the Aviva Stadium in the capital of Ireland, the venue that will replace Lansdowne Road Stadium which was pulled down in 2007. The former structure boasts a long history, as it opened in 1872 and was the oldest sports stadium in Europe. The newly-built edifice opened in May this year, and will host the Europa League final in 2011.
