After the Yokohama Tire PRGR Ladies Cup in the Japan LPGA finished Sunday, Park In-bee thought the trophy was hers. But due to a two-stroke penalty added to her tally, she finished as the runner-up.
The 2008 U.S Women's Open champion Park finished 8-under at 64 in the final round, giving her a 12-under 204 total, which was one-shot ahead of Wei Yun-jye (11-under 205) of Taiwan.
But after the round was over, a marshal reported an incident occurring on the first hole to the competition committee. After a review, the committee penalized the Korean two strokes.
On the first green, when Park took a practice swing, the wind moved the ball.
But the 21-year-old didn't report it to the referee because she didn't think she had started an address.
``If a player starts an address, the player has to report it to the referee and gets a one-shot penalty no matter how the ball moved,'' a Korea LPGA official said in a statement.
If a player doesn't report it, the golfer can get a two-shot penalty.
The tournament committee checked an instant replay and judged that her putter touched the green.
Park's final round score card was then changed to a 6-under 66, moving her total to a 10-under 206 and into second place.
