Park Ji-sung Says He’s Fit to Play

By Yoon Chul
Staff Reporter

South Korean national football team captain Park Ji-sung said Wednesday (KST) he's confident that he can play in two upcoming friendlies in Europe against Denmark and Serbia.

Park, who has been battling a nagging knee injury, spoke to the media upon arriving in Denmark.

"I am in good enough shape to play in the friendlies," Park said.

"If it is possible, I want to play in both matches."

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson had questioned whether Park is fit to play in the national team matches. Park has missed 11 straight games with his club, and the team has sent its own trainer to work with the 28-year-old Korean.

"The trainer will arrive tomorrow. The national team doesn't have a physical trainer, so he can help me," Park explained.

"This suggestion came from the physical trainer, not Alex Ferguson. But Ferguson agreed to allow the trainer to come with me."

Park is anxious to play in the two matches, seen as crucial tests for Korea ahead of the World Cup.
"It is a good chance for us to measure ourselves against European teams before the World Cup.

In competing with them, we can determine our weak points, as well as our strengths."

South Korea faces Denmark Nov. 15 at 4 a.m. (KST).
