South Korean figure star is close to her first International Skating Union (ISU) World Figure Skating Championships title as she set a world record in the ladies' short program, Friday.
At the Staples Center in Los Angeles, figure queen Kim, wearing shinny dark dress, scored 76.12 points to beat Joannie Rochette of Canada with a margin of 8.22. The two-time Grand Prix champion's archival rival Mao Asada of Japan came in third with 66.06.
Kim's score was best ever for a woman
The 18-year-old Kim didn't need her new triple-triple combination, a triple lutz-triple toe loop, which she has practiced during her exercise in Los Angeles. Her representative performance, a triple flip-triple toe loop, was undoubtedly perfect. Her jump was high and the spin was fast and accurate.
During her performance, she skated with energy and confidence enough to attract all the people including her contenders.
After she finished her performance, Kim received a standing ovation and appeared satisfied with the result.
As Kim performed perfectly, many figure skating fans started looking at the possibility of whether the Korean figure star could grab the title scoring more than 200 points.
The free skating program is scheduled for Saturday (Sunday morning, Seoul Time).
