New K-League team Gangwon FC unveiled its club logo Thursday, heralding the birth of the divisions 15th outfit.
The crest, which will adorn the teams shirts next season, features a bear, with the words Great Union 2008.
Gangwon, the flagship club for Gangwon Province, is the fifth outfit to have been funded by the community from which they come, rather than by a big-name sponsor.
Some 11.3 billion won has been pumped into the team, six billion of it from around 70,000 people across the three million populace of Gangwon.
The province follows in the footsteps of Incheon United, Daegu FC, Geongnam FC and Daejeon Citizen.
Marketing and public relations manager Kwon Ik-jin hailed the club as a significant milestone in the development of Gangwon, saying the ultimate goal is to serve the community and survive for decades to come.
``We want to become the real community team, a strong club, he said.
``We dont want to make any specific goals for next season we just want to represent the province for a long time.
The club will play at three stadiums next season, such is the vast size of the province Gangwon Sports Complex and two of which are currently under construction.
Bosses hope to increase the squad size from its present 27 to 35 by the start of the 2009 season.
The names of the players, who will be led by manager Choi Soon-ho, are to be revealed in April.
