Poland

A free exhibition, “Unpolished-Young Design from Poland,” will be held at the Korea Foundation Cultural Center Gallery in Jung-gu, central Seoul, Aug. 9-30.

Audiences can enjoy prototypes, unique copies or a limited series of works by 16 Polish designers and design groups of the 30-something generation with explanations from the curator at the exhibition organized by the Korea Foundation.

The works on display are made out of inexpensive, natural, and widely available substances like wood or recycled materials, and some designs are inspired by Polish traditions and crafts, according to the press release.

The exhibition, co-organized by the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and sponsored by the Polish Embassy in Seoul, will open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on other days. It will be closed Sundays.

Japan

The Embassy of Japan is recruiting volunteers, high schoolers or older, for the upcoming joint festival of Korea and Japan, until Sept. 7.

They will be positioned in departments including public relations, management, interpretation service, and also work as tour guides and equipment maintainers for the cultural event at COEX in Gangnam, southern Seoul, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 3.

The festival aims to stimulate interaction between citizens, teenagers and organizations of two countries.

Successful applicants, to be announced on the website (http://www.omatsuri.kr/korean/index.asp) and notified it to each of them on Sept. 14, will attend a two-hour volunteer orientation 10 days later at 6:30 p.m. at the embassy’s Public Information and Cultural Center in Jongno-gu, central Seoul.

While working, volunteers can rotate and watch the event and perform in programs. In addition, they will receive certificates of completing the volunteer activity with the maximum of eight hours.
