Exhibition to save Gallery Casa del Agua

The Mexican Embassy in Seoul, together with Gongpyeong Gallery, Korean Fine Arts Association and Korean Sculptor’s Association, opens “Legorreta: Embracing Space” today.

The exhibition is at Gallery Casa del Agua on Jeju Island, designed by architect Richard Legorreta in 2009.

It is an act of protest by the Mexican community in Korea against landowners trying to demolish the gallery to construct accomodation for the 2012 World Conservation Congress to be held in September.

The gallery is highly acclaimed, winning the award for Best Hotel Construction & Design at the Americas Property Awards 2010.
Local authorities were supposed to rule on the demoltion by Wednesday but didn’t make a final decision, according to Claudia Macias de Yoon, president of the ASsociation of Mexican Residents.
