Seoul International Hikers to hold bamboo forest day trip

By John Redmond

For those interested in hiking through a scenic bamboo forest, the Seoul International Hikers Club (SHIC) will hold a Damyang and Sunchang day trip in South Jeolla Province on July 14.

With participants meeting at 7:40 a.m. in front of exit 1 of the Sports Complex Station, the group will return to Seoul around 10 p.m. (schedule subject to change).

SHIC have planned a day trip to Damyang and Sunchang famous for bamboo forest and “gochujang” or hot pepper sauce. The group will take a chartered bus from Seoul to Damyang to stroll in the bamboo forest and then move on to Suncheon to hike Mt. Gangcheon.

Damyang has been famous for traditional beautiful gardens and well grown street trees since the Joseon Kingdom. Mt. Gangcheon in Sunchang has a very mild trail along cool streams full of trout to a reservoir. Those who wish to can enjoy barefoot hiking and jump into the stream during the hike.

The trip costs 40,000 won and this covers transport, cable car, admission, one meal and insurance.

Cancellations are non-refundable. In case you aren't available, you can arrange for a friend to take your seat. However, if SIHC cancels the trip due to inclement weather or other factors, your payment will be refunded.
