Saudi princess tried to leave luxury hotel without paying

PARIS (AFP) - A Saudi princess was caught trying to leave the Shangri-La hotel in Paris without settling a six million euro ($7.4 million) bill for her rooms, police said Saturday, confirming a report in the daily Le Parisien.

Maha al-Sudani, the former wife of Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Nayef ben Abdel Aziz, tried to walk out on 3:30 a.m. Thursday without paying for her suite and those of her 60-strong entourage, prompting staff to call in police, Le Parisien reported.

The Saudi Arabian ambassador was also contacted during the incident, added Le Parisien, which noted that Sudani enjoys diplomatic immunity.

When contacted by AFP, the luxury hotel's director Alain Borgers said that that are "no problems" with its clients and "no unpaid bills" at the moment.

The princess has already had previous run-ins over unpaid bills. In 2009, fashion chain Key Largo went to court to obtain 89,000 euros owed by the princess.

이에 호텔 직원이 경찰에 신고했고 파리주재 사우디 대사가 사건 해결을 위해 나섰다고 이 신문은 전했다.
수다니 공주는 지난해 10월말 사우디 왕위계승서열 1위인 왕세제에 책봉된 나이프 내무장관 겸 제2부총리의 전 부인이다.

나이프 왕세제는 현 압둘라 국왕의 이복동생이자 고 술탄 황제세의 친동생이다.

호텔 책임자는 르 파리지엥의 보도 이후 AFP통신에 "아무런 문제가 없으며 현재 미지불된 것도 없다"고 말했다.

수다니 공주는 지난 2009년에도 한 패션업체와 8만9천 유로 상당의 속옷 대금 지불 문제로 법정까지 가는 마찰을 빚었다. (파리 AFP=연합뉴스)
