Temporarily hanging up her skates, Olympic champion Kim Yu-na will stand on the teacher’s platform for a month, her agency said Monday.

According to All That Sports, Kim, a senior who is majoring in physical education at Korea University, will do her teaching practice at Jin-seon Girls’ High School in Yeoksam-dong, southern Seoul from today for four weeks. The one-month placement is a mandatory part of the curriculum for an education major.

“After my ice show, I will start my teaching placement. Although I am nervous that students may be disappointed in me, I will do my best to make it a good experience,” Kim said in last month’s press conference for her ice show that ran from Friday to Sunday.

The agency also said Kim’s teaching experience will be open to the media for one hour on Tuesday morning, but the remainder will be carried out behind closed doors.

There was speculation that Kim, who graduated from Suri High School in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province in 2009, may do her teaching training at her alma mater. But she ruled out that possibility because the distance she would need to travel would interrupt her practice at the National Training Center in Taeneung.
