A 56-year-old man has been arrested for murdering at least 11 teenagers and selling their flesh at a local market in Yunnan Province, southwest China.
Police said that they were investigating the case of a missing 19-year-old when they found the teenager’s cell phone and bank card as well as the personal property of a dozen other teenagers in Zhang Yongming’s house.
Zhang, who had served 18 years in jail for murder, was keeping human eyeballs in wine bottles and had human flesh hanging in his house when police searched it, the police said.
Police said Zhang’s “ostrich meat” sold in the market could have been human flesh, according to the Hong Kong newspaper, The Standard.
The villagers claimed the “cannibal monster” was responsible for 17 teenagers who had gone missing over the last several years but police refused to comment.
Details of the incident and phrases such as “missing in Yunnan” are currently banned from online searches, as the Chinese government seemingly intends to cover up the incident.
