Dubai publishes world’s ’largest book’
Deputy Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashed Al Maktoum has launched the world's largest book on the Prophet Mohammad, titled “This Is Mohammad,” Gulfnews reported.
About 100 people worked on the book which is made of a fine mixture of paper and leather for 16 months in Germany. The 420-page publication weighs 1,500 kilograms and is 5 meters in height and 4.03 meters in width. The previous biggest was a 346-page book measuring 4.18 meters by 3.77 meters and weighing about 1,420 kilograms. It was printed out in Hungary. “I am convinced that this book is the biggest in the world," said Vince Sharma, the official adjudicator. The project was carried out under the sponsorship of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai. The book will travel around the world to be exhibited and 500,000 copies of the normal-sized version in Arabic and English will be sold,” said Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al Awlaki. “Also, it will have copies in Russian, Chinese, Italian, Uzbek and Braille.” he said. After the touring exhibition, the original book will be on permanent display at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. |
