Korea Public Relations Association announced Tuesday that it has selected Rhee In-yong, executive vice president of Samsung’s communications team, as the “public relations professional of the year.”

The association of professionals aiming to develop public relations as both an industry and academy has been awarding “the Korea Public Relations Award” since 1993.

The “public relations professional of the year” award acknowledges the person that has made the most achievements in that year, among all the public relations officers of major businesses in the country.

The association said that Rhee was chosen for his contribution in enhancing the image of Samsung Group as a trusted company through honest and transparent communication efforts, on top of strengthening the group’s public relations activities in the global market and through social media.

Rhee, a former reporter for the MBC network, joined Samsung Electronics in 2005 as the manager of public relations, and has been leading the Samsung Group’s communications team since 2009.

He has been bolstering diverse channels of communications, particularly with the media overseas. Samsung Group also has been actively using social network services such as Twitter and blogs as new means of communications under Rhee.

The award ceremony will be held at the Plaza Hotel in central Seoul on Nov. 22.
