KOTRi to host film fundraiser

By John Redmond

Korea On The Rocks Initiatives (KOTRi) is hosting the international 2011 Reel Rock Film Tour fundraiser in Seoul at the SETEC International Auditorium on Dec. 10.

The Reel Rock Film Tour is KOTRi's second annual fundraiser and, with an anticipated audience this year of between 300 and 500 of Korea's most avid outdoor and climbing enthusiasts, fundraising expectations are high. KOTRi initiates fundraisers of this nature to ensure the ongoing support for the development, maintenance and improvement of Korea's spectacular climbing environment.

Bringing the very best in climbing and adventure films to local audiences with the only Korean screening, the event promises six breathtaking films, auctions, raffles, prizes as well as the much anticipated premier of new event partner adidas' film “Antarctica.” All proceeds will go toward climbing sustainability projects around Korea. This year the event is entirely bilingual and all films have Korean subtitles.

“For those who cannot make the event but would like to contribute to KOTRi's ongoing sustainability projects around Korea, get involved in the newly launched "Replace a Route" program. Allowing climbers to select a specific route and donate towards its refurbishment, the program is perfect for both group and individual donations. All donations go to the direct replacement of climbing hardware on the climbing routes that you select,” states a press release.

KOTRi is an extension of the Korea On The Rocks Community, based in South Korea. The mission is to conduct cross-cultural projects that bridge borders and strive to protect the natural environment that inspires a simple, yet profound, passion to climb. KOTRi strives to provide foreign climbers an opportunity, as well as an outlet to contribute and become a part of the larger South Korean climbing community.

Tickets for the event are available in advance for 10,000 won or at the door for 15,000 won. A 20 percent discount will be arranged for Korean gym owners who book for groups of five or more.
