Ex-CIA agent reveals N. Koreans obsessed with porn

One of former America's top spies has revealed that he won North Korean diplomats over to his side with porn.

This is contained in the book, “The Art of Intelligence,” authored by Hank Crumpton, who served as deputy director of the CIA's Counter-Terrorism Center.

Crumpton said that he never met a North Korean who did not like pornography. It is presumed that the officers used porn for personal purpose or selling, according to the former spy.
“I was wondering whether spending taxes from U.S. citizens for satisfying North Koreans’ sexual desires is right. But I thought it is proper if the source give secrets upon nuclear threats.”

His remark has given rise to conjectures that the CIA lured diplomats at the North Korean Mission to the U.N. in New York as it is the only North Korean diplomatic body in the U.S. but he didn’t give any details, such as whom he won and what kinds of information he obtained.

In an interview with CBS on Sunday, he also said al-Qaeda terrorists and North Korean spies have a common weakness. Both like porn very much, he added. Telling interviewer what he would have to do for building secret networks, Crumpton said: “Supplying porn to a North Korean official to entice them to spy for America, along with money or whatever else it might take.”

Besides, he concerned about foreign spying activities in the U.S. “I would hazard to guess there are more foreign intelligence officers inside the U.S. working against U.S. interests now than even at the height of the Cold War,” said Crumpton. “China, in particular, has very sophisticated and aggressive intelligence operations against the U.S.”

He also introduced that Afghan sources had been warning 9/11 terror since 1998 but President Clinton’s White House didn’t trust the CIA’s Afghan source alone.

미국 중앙정보국(CIA)의 전직 고위인사가 북한 외교관을 외설물로 포섭했다고 밝혔다.

CIA의 가장 비밀스런 조직인 국가자원부(NRD) 책임자를 지낸 행크 크럼프턴(55)은 14일(현지시간) 발매된 자신의 책 <정보의 기술(The Art of Intelligence)>에서 "포르노를 원치 않는 북한 외교관을 만나본 적이 없다"고 폭로했다. 크럼프턴은 9ㆍ11 테러 직후 알 카에다 응징을 조종한 인물로 스파이 세계에서는 전설로 통한다.

크럼프턴은 "정보 수집을 위해 미국 거주 외국인을 포섭하기도 한다"며 "이를 위해 포르노 잡지와 비디오를 한 상자씩 보관했다"고 적었다. 그는 "미 국민이 낸 세금을 북한 사람의 성적 흥분을 위해 사용하는 게 옳은지 고민까지 했지만 북한 정보원이 북핵 위협에 대해 알려준다면 미국 이익에 부합한다고 판단했다"고 말했다. 크럼프턴은 북한 외교관들이 외설물을 원한 이유를 개인 용도 또는 판매를 위한 것으로 추측했다.

크럼프턴의 언급은 CIA가 북한 유엔대표부 직원들을 포섭하기 위해 각종 유혹을 했을 것이란 추정을 낳고 있다. 미국 내 북한 외교시설은 유엔대표부가 유일하기 때문이다. 크럼프턴은 그러나 포섭한 북한인사가 누구인지, 구체적으로 어떤 정보를 얻었는지는 밝히지 않았다.

크럼프턴은 13일 CBS방송 인터뷰에서도 "알 카에다 테러범과 북한 출신 스파이의 공통된 약점은 포르노를 사랑한다는 것"이라며 "북한 관리를 미국을 위해 일하는 스파이로 유인하기 위해 외설물은 물론 돈과 그 밖의 것들까지 제공했다"고 말했다.

크럼프턴은 "지금 미국에서는 냉전 시기보다 더 많은 스파이가 암약하고 있다"며 "특히 중국은 매우 정교하고 공격적인 정보전을 펴고 있다"고 우려했다. 그는 9ㆍ11 테러 경고가 1998년부터 나왔으나 빌 클린턴 정부가 아프간 정보원의 알 카에다 관련 정보를 믿지 않았다는 비사도 소개했다.
