Fake Viagra tops list of counterfeit goods
In a crack-down on fake brands, the Korea Customs Service reported Monday that 269,309 fake Viagra pills were confiscated during the first three months of this year. The Angry Birds came second with 216,238, followed by 73,474 in Calvin Kline goods and 18,971 Disney character products. A total of 237,197 counterfeit goods in character brands were confiscated, accounting for 34 percent of the total during the same period, mainly due to growth of demand for gift goods, such as popular Angry Birds, iPhone accessory Rabito, and Rilakkuma mobile phone case. The faked fancy goods totaled 269,389 items thanks to the popularity of Angry Birds and Hello Kitty. Other popular fake items were 113,658 pieces of clothing, 49,042 bags and purses, 10,786 watches, 14,353 pairs of shoes, and 14,205 electric and electronic goods. Fake Louis Vuitton products reached 28 cases, the largest number, followed by Chanel and Gucci with 27 and Burberry, 24. In terms of fines, the customs service levied 76.3 billion won on fake Rolex, 37 billion won on Cartier, 26.4 billion won on Burberry, 21 billion won on Chanel. |
