Comedian Jo, husband end 13-year marriage

Jo Hye-ryun, veteran entertainer and TV personality, and husband have filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.

The case was brought to court by mutual agreement and is currently nearing the end of legal proceedings. The period of deliberation, a necessary part of the Korean divorce process, has ended, according to her agency TN Entertainment on Thursday.

It disolves their marriage of 13 years.

The 41-year-old comedian has suspended her professional activities and is known to be staying in China at the moment.

“Ms. Jo will be on leave for the foreseeable future without any engagements,” said a TN Entertainment official.

In the past, she spoke openly about her marital troubles, sharing her stories with the public.

Since her 1992 debut with the national broadcaster KBS, Jo has established herself as a major comedian, even extending her humorous talents to reach Japan.

한편 조혜련은 이혼의 후유증으로 당분간 SBS '스타 주니어쇼 붕어빵', MBC '세상을 바꾸는 퀴즈', 종합편성채널 MBN '충무로 와글와글' 등의 방송에 차질이 빚어질 것으로 전망됐다.

조씨의 이혼은 연예계의 연이은 이혼 소식과 함께 팬들에 적잖은 충격을 주고 있다.

3주년 연예계 대표 연상연하 커플로도 화제를 모았던 탤런트 김보연(본명 김윤주, 55), 전노민(본명 전재룡, 46) 부부가 8년 만에 이혼을 선언했었다.

인기 스포츠스타와 스타 아나운서의 결혼으로 화제를 모았던 농구선수 서장훈(37)과 오정연 KBS 아나운서(29) 역시 결혼 3년 만에 남남으로 돌아섰다. 결혼 초기부터 불화설에 휘말렸던 두 사람은 4일 소송없이 이혼조정에 합의한 것으로 알려졌다.
