A surrogate mother business has been thriving for infertile couples in China, a Chinese daily reported Tuesday.

Ming Pao headquartered in Hong Kong said that there was a posting put on a website on surrogate pregnancy arrangements, guaranteeing a male baby if 1.2 million yuan (about 200 million won) is paid.

“Twins and triplets are also available as well as a male baby if enough money is right,” the site reads.

The surrogate mother will abort immediately when the baby is found female in prenatal exams but she will be rewarded at least an additional 200,000 yuan (about 36 million won) if the baby is male, the paper quoted a businessman as saying.

It is reported that currently there are hundreds of surrogate mother companies thriving in China.

“Competent” companies among them have been advertizing that there is no risk involving surrogate pregnancy as they give birth after returning to China from their trips to Thailand, India and other countries which have legalized surrogate motherhood, according to the paper.

But legal experts have warned that not all contracting parties are protected in China as surrogate pregnancy is illegal.
