An exhibition of portraits has recently taken place in Prague, the Czech Republic. With the aim of helping people confront with death, Czech artist Roman Tyc used ashes of human bones instead of paint for his works.

Under the theme of “Grave Robber,” the controversial artist brought the remnants of death and presented visitors with portraits of people, who have passed away, made with ashes of human bones.

Tyc refused to show his face for the interview, saying he wanted the art to stand alone, without the presence of the artist in person to distract from the art, according to donga.com Thursday.

One of the reasons Tyc chose ashes of human bones instead of paint for his works is that “people disregard those ashes.” He expressed hope that that the exhibition will serve as an occasion to help start a discussion on how society deals with death, donga.com said.

Tyc was quoted by donga.com as telling Reuters TV, "I have to say that when I was exploring this funeral world I understood or found out some things. One of these things is the fact that practically no one knows human ash, no one knows what it looks like and only a very small percentage of people come across human ash during their lives. For me it was interesting to follow people, to see how they are exploring the ash and how they take it."
