A Chinese man received a bucket of cold water in return for a special marriage proposal rather than being bowled over by romantic gestures.
Zhu Lei, living in Fuyang, eastern China, rented a crane and organized to be lifted to the window of his girlfriend’s apartment to propose, the Daily Mail reported on Wednesday.
Zhu was positive that his girlfriend, Na Na, would say, “Yes,” and invited local television stations and newspapers to the place where he expected to stage the unforgettable moment.
Dressed in his best suit, he was lifted to the window with a bouquet of red roses in his hands. However, he came down as quickly as he went up, because the woman who opened the window grabbed a bowl and hurled water at the unsuspecting Zhu.
“The woman denied his proposal, laughing at him,” said one of the witnesses to the situation.
It is said that the woman was his girlfriend's mother who has disapproved of him.
Sadly for Zhu, the whole episode was captured on camera and broadcast. He struggled to come up with an explanation as to why his stunt failed, according to the paper.
