Kiton Matsuya appeared on “Korea-Japan Comedy Competition” on Monday and comically imitated facial expressions and movements of the Japanese figure skating star. The program was specially broadcast on KBS 2TV for Chuseok, the Korean version of Western Thanksgiving Day.
A lot of audiences gave him applaud. Korean viewers also laughed while watching the show of the comedian wearing a costume and make-up similar to Mao. Japanese netizens, however, have expressed anger about his performance.
The netizens have said that he did not have to make Mao into a laugh in the Korea’s TV network. They have also pointed out that he was also under fire from Mao’s fans last September when he did the same thing in an entertainment program of Fuji TV in Japan.
“It seems crazy of you to perform again after being criticized in Japan,” “Live rest of your life in Korea,” “Nationalize yourself into Korean” and “I feel unpleasant. Are you satisfied to make a fool of your county’s athlete?” were some of comments posted by netizens in the comedian’s blog.
Meanwhile, there have been some positive comments. Among them are “I laughed a lot,” “It would be good for you to achieve recognition in Korea as a well-known comedian” and “You have great talent to make people laugh like famous Korean stars who lead hallyu, the Korean wave.”
