K-pop group SHINee’s first single in Japan ranked No. 2 on the Oricon daily singles chart Wednesday on its first day of release, said the group’s agency SM Entertainment.
The track “Replay ― Kimiwa Bokuno Everything” features a Japanese version of the boy band’s local debut piece “Nunan Neomu Yebbeo” which has sold over 120,000 copies, said the agency.
In August, Oricon News published a K-pop feature story and introduced SHINee as having “a steadily growing fan base since its debut in 2008”and that as “the face of K-pop” it grew to become an incontestably popular group in Asia.”
Meanwhile the group’s London showcase on Sunday at Abbey Road Studio received much media attention in Japan.
The five-member group is set to appear at the MTV Video Music Award Japan on Saturday and will kick off a cross-country tour, “SHINee Japan Debut Premium Reception,” next month. They are due to perform in Fukuoka on July 22, Kobe on July 23, Tokyo on July 27 and 28, Sapporo on Aug. 8 and Nagoya on Aug. 11.
