The International Artists Community (IAC) presents an online solo exhibition by James Guinevan Seymour titled “Seed” from Dec. 15 to 29.
The artist states that the work is about the importance of life.
“My work as I have noticed over the past eight years has had the same recurring theme: the circle of life and death. This is mainly a result of personal circumstance that has shaped my ideas on life and death and has left my work with an often somber tone to the untrained eye but it is not all doom and gloom as to me life and death go hand in hand. You cannot have one without the other and the presence of death can help remind us how important life is. This presence has helped me to appreciate my life and work even more and reminded me to make more of a conscientious effort to make the most of my everyday life and work and especially to enjoy the moment,” Seymour states on the promotional material.
December marks the first anniversary of the formation of IAC.
Over the past year, the group has been involved in organizing five major exhibitions in Seoul. It has formed close working relationships with numerous galleries and art groups within Korea and overseas.
In the year since the group’s formation, it has grown to become a significant part of the Seoul art scene by not only mounting four successful group shows in galleries in Insadong and Myeongdong but also collaborated with other art groups in three other large events, the most recent being the “Art of Love” charity auction and bazaar which took place at Yongsan Culture and Exhibition Hall on Dec. 4.
“As well as hosting our own shows, the group also seeks to support and promote creative interaction between member artists such as the Diplan Art Walk and Rita Crocker & Andres Monzon-Aguirre Joint Exhibition. The group itself hopes to stage its next major exhibition in Seoul in the early spring,” said Richard Beaumont in an email to The Korea Times.
The IAC’s own website went live in June this year and provides a platform for member artists to display their own work, gives information on past, current and upcoming group and individual member shows.
In addition to the website, the IAC’s Facebook group now has over 400 members made up of artists and art lovers from all over the world.
