They say it’s never wise to go grocery shopping on an empty stomach, however at High Street Market, the new hip gourmet Deli opening on the Itaewon strip, it won’t matter if your stomach is full or empty.
Your cravings for those “unavailable” items in Korea will awaken . Specialty food from the shelves of and the distinctive deli counter offering customized cuts of meats and cheeses will beckon.
This high-end “multi-deli” will also include a bakery with bread baked fresh daily and a boutique wine shop offering top quality labels not available for retail elsewhere.
Customers at High Street will be greeted with soft music and helpful English speaking staff as they enter this combination of culinary delights.
Without the jostling crowds and cumbersome carts of COSTCO, but rather the alluring aroma of freshly ground coffee beans, this new venture aims to target both locals and expats alike with an array of foreign groceries.
For example, those seeking the convenience of a one-stop shop to satisfy all their epicurean needs can now go to High Street Market and purchase meat that is prepared as it would be at a butcher’s commonly in the west, cut to your specifications. Everything from thinly-sliced deli meats, thick steaks to ground chicken for low-fat hamburgers!
Customers can then pick up a nice, full bodied Pinotage from South Africa or a crisp Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand to accompany the meal, and grab a hot French Baguette on their way to the register at the Pieroth Boutique Wine Shop located inside and featuring wines from all over the world. What makes this shop different are the wines from smaller estates- those you don’t find in the Supermarket (so no Yellow Tail here!). For serious wine lovers that are looking for unique top quality wines- this shop alone makes High Street worth the visit.
Imagine most of the items a host would require to throw a memorable party, and you begin to see what will be available at this wonderland of gourmet pleasures. Among the hard to find food items are various breakfast cereals, European style bread (bread that doesn’t taste sweet!), reasonably priced foreign cheeses, imported directly for High Street market, and fresh roasted coffee beans by weight. Even scented candles to add that romantic touch to a homemade meal will be available for sale.
This bold undertaking to appease the taste buds far and wide on the peninsula is brought to you by Dan Schulte of Pieroth Wines, along with several other partners who each contribute a particular aspect to the team to infuse High Street Market with great synergy.
The grand opening is bright and early on Dec. 17 at 9a.m.
Opening week will be kicked off with various discounts, prizes and even lottery giveaways.
Stop by and grab a fresh croissant or a delicious sandwich to go.
