A new state-run English exam is likely to replace the English section of the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) from 2015, an education ministry official announced Saturday.

During a seminar to discuss the future course of the nation’s English education, the ministry official said colleges here will use the homegrown test for student recruitment from 2012 and the ministry will decide in that year whether it will replace the English test on the (CSAT) or not after collecting expert opinions. Teachers from all over the country participated in the seminar.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, in cooperation with the Korean Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation (KICE), has developed the Internet-based English test.

“Evaluation manuals for (English) speaking and writing have been developed and distributed to each school. Training sessions to improve evaluation specialty of English teachers is ongoing,” the ministry official said during the seminar.

Consisting of reading, listening, speaking and writing sections, the new exam will offer three levels of difficulty levels; grade 1 for adults and grades 2 and 3 for students.

During the probation period until 2011, the ministry will further study whether overseas universities will accept the test to be used to determine admissions.




국가영어평가 2016년 수능 대체할 듯

`한국형 토익·토플'로 불리는 국가영어능력평가시험이 2016학년도부터 대학수학능력시험 외국어(영어) 영역을 대체하게 될 전망이다.

또 2013학년도부터 대입 수시전형의 참고자료로 이 시험이 활용될 것으로 보인다.

교육과학기술부는 4일 서울 강남구 역삼동 삼성SDS 멀티캠퍼스에서 EBS원격교육연수원 주최로 열린 제3회 티세미나에서 교사 180여 명에게 이런 내용의 국가영어능력평가시험 시행방안을 설명했다고 5일 밝혔다.

방안에 따르면 국가영어능력평가시험을 올해와 내년 각각 6만명, 10만명을 대상으로 2회씩 시범 시행한 뒤 2012년 수능 대체 여부를 결정한다.

공신력 인정 정도와 의견 수렴 결과를 종합해 수능을 대체하는 것으로 결정되면, 수능체제 개편안에 따라 2014~2015학년도는 수준별 A·B형 영어시험을 보고, 2016학년도부터는 국가영어능력평가시험 성적으로 수능 영어를 대신한다.

이에 앞서 3년의 예고기간을 거친다.

또 2013학년도 대입 수시모집 전형부터 국가영어능력평가시험 성적을 대학들이 참고자료로 활용하게 할 방침이다. 시험은 2012년부터 본시행에 들어간다.

인터넷기반평가(IBT)인 이 시험은 토익·토플을 대체할 성인용 1급과 학생용 2, 3급으로 나뉜다.

2급은 영어를 많이 필요로 하는 학과(어문·국제·경상계열 등)에서 요구하는 수준이고 3급은 실용영어 수준이다.

문항 수는 2급 76개, 3급 78개로 시험시간은 2, 3급 모두 145분이다.

시험은 듣기, 읽기, 말하기, 쓰기 영역으로 나뉘며 성적 산출방식은 4개 영역별 등급제(1안), 듣기·읽기/말하기·쓰기 통합등급제(2안), 4개 영역 통합등급제(3안)가 검토되고 있다.
