NFL cheerleader wins $11 million lawsuit

A cheerleader of the NFL Cincinnati Bengals has hit the jackpot by winning an $11 million libel lawsuit against gossip news Internet site TheDirty.com, according to news reports.

The site posted comments that indicated the cheerleader, Sarah Jones, reportedly had an affair with an NFL player and was infected with two sexually transmitted diseases.

Jones, who is also a high school teacher, sued the company last February for damaging her image and finally won an award of $11 million, the reports said.

미국 지방 판사 윌리엄 버텔스만은 가십 뉴스 사이트 더더티닷컴의 운영 회사는 치어리디어자 고교 교사인 사라 존스에게 징벌적 배상금 1천만달러를 포함 총 1천1백만달러를 지급해야 한다고 판결했다.

문제의 인터넷 뉴스 사이트는 사라 존스가 미식축구선수와 외도를 가졌으며 두 종류의 성병에 감염되었다는 기사를 냈고 격분한 사라 존스는 지난 2월 명예 훼손을 이유로 소송을 냈다.
