Zhang Embroiled in Scandal

Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi is suspected of delaying the release of donation funds she had garnered for victims of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake during her fundraising activities at the Cannes Film Festival the same year.

Zhang's fiance, multi-millionaire Vivi Nevo, had reportedly set up the Zhang Ziyi Foundation on her behalf in the United States to conduct fundraising activities for the earthquake victims.

Citing information from Nevo's close friend in Hong Kong, Chinese media reports alleged that the Foundation's donation funds, earmarked for the Chinese Red Cross Foundation, were channeled into Zhang's personal overseas account and remained there for almost 18 months after her fundraising efforts at the film festival.

After the big blame on Zhang, Ji Lingling who is a manager of Zhang said Zhang has paid 160,000 yuan to the Chinese Red Cross Foundation following online allegations that Zhang never remitted fully the 1 million yuan she pledged in 2008 after the devastating earthquake

After the online allegations came out, they checked with the foundation and discovered the shortfall. ``I now realize that stars need to be careful and supervise strictly when doing charity work,'' Ji wrote. ``This is serious negligence by me in management. I am sorry.''

장쯔이 기부금 횡령 스캔들 휩쓸려

중국의 세계적 여배우 장쯔이가 2008년 쓰촨 대지진 피해자들을 위해 그 해 칸느 영화제 기간 모금한 기부금을 제대로 전달하지 않은 것으로 밝혀졌다.

장쯔이의 억만장자 약혼자 비비 네보는 당시 미국에서 장쯔이를 대신해 대지진 희생자 모금활동을 위해 '장쯔이 재단'을 설립했던 것으로 전해졌다.

그러나 중국 언론은 네보의 홍콩 측근을 인용해 모금액이 장쯔이의 해외 개인 계좌로 옮겨진 뒤 18개월 가까이 그곳에 있었다고 보도했다.

거센 비난에 직면한 장쯔이의 매니저 지링링은 쓰촨 대지진 당시 중국 적십자사에 기부하기로 약속했던 100만위안 가운데 미납액 16만 위안을 완납했다고 밝혔다.

지링링은 온라인에 이 같은 기사가 보도된 뒤 확인해 본 결과 기부금이 제대로 전달되지 않았음을 발견했다면서 "스타로서 자선활동을 할 때 더욱 신경 썼어야 했는데 이것은 자신의 잘못으로 죄송하다"고 말했다.
