Actress Jeon Ji-hyun will appear in the Chinese film ``Snow Flower and the Secret Fan,'' press reports said Wednesday.
Jeon will be joined by Chinese star Li Bingbing and Australian heartthrob Hugh Jackman, the movie's male lead.
``Snow Flower and the Secret Fan'' is a film adaptation of novelist Lisa See's 2005 book of the same name, which is set in 19th century China and depicts a lifetime friendship between two women. It will be directed by Chinese-American filmmaker Wayne Wang.
An official at sidusHQ, Jeon's agency, said, ``Wang has tried to lure Jeon to appear in his movies several times but it has not worked. With this cast, however, both Jeon and Wang are pleased and have high expectations.''
Filming kicked off Tuesday and Jackman, the ``Wolverine'' actor, will join the entourage in mid-February.

배우 전지현이 중국 영화 '설화와 비밀의 부채' (Snow Flower and the Secret Fan)에 출연한다.
전지현은 '설화와 비밀의 부채'에서 중국 국민배우 리빙빙과 함께 여주인공으로 출연해 연기 호흡을 맞춘다. 이 영화에는 '엑스맨' 시리즈로 널리 알려진 유명 헐리우드 배우 휴 잭맨이 남자 주인공으로 출연한다.
'설화와 비밀의 부채'는 미국계 중국인 리사 시의 동명소설을 영화화한 작품으로, 영화 '조이 럭 클럽'의 홍콩 출신 미국인 감독 웨인 왕이 메가폰을 잡았다.
이번 영화는 19세기 여성들이 억압 받던 중국 청나라를 배경으로 고립된 삶을 살던 여인들이 부채에 비밀문자로 시와 글을 주고받으며 깊은 우정을 나누는 두 여인의 이야기를 담은 작품이다.
전지현의 소속사 sidusHQ 관계자는 "웨인 왕 감독이 몇 번의 러브콜을 보내왔었지만, 아쉽게 좋은 기회가 생기지 못했다. 하지만 이번 작품을 함께 하게 되어 전지현과 웨인 왕 감독 모두 기뻐하고 많은 기대를 하고 있다"고 전했다.
영화 '설화와 비밀의 부채'는 2월 2일 크랭크인했다. 휴 잭맨은 2월 중순 촬영에 합류할 예정이다.
