Former Korea Times editorial writer Kim Chang-young was named Friday to head the media relations office for Prime Minister Chung Un-chan.
A native of Geumsan, South Chungcheong Province, the 54-year-old started his journalistic career at The Korea Times in 1980.
He worked as The Korea Times staff reporter and editorial writer from 1980 to 1995. He also served as a columnist for the Japanese news agency Kyodo.
He served as a deputy spokesman for the minor opposition Liberal Democratic Party headed by former Prime Minister Kim Jong-pil from 1995 to 1999.
Since 2002, he had been heading a publishing company in Seoul.
