Korean actress Bae Doo-na won an award for best actress for her role in a Japanese film at the prestigious Japan Academy Prize, according to Bae's agency, Barunson Entertainment, Wednesday.
The 30-year old was nominated for her role in the film ``Air Doll,'' and was one of five actresses given the award. The Japan Academy Prize will announce the winner of the Grand Prize at the award ceremony next year.
``It is the first time for a foreign actress, let alone a Korean actress, to receive an award at the Japan Academy Prize,'' her agency said.
The other four competitors include top actresses such as Haruka Ayase and Ryoko Hirosue.
``Air Doll'' was Bae' second Japanese movie, following ``Linda Linda Linda'' in 2006. ``Air Doll'' was released in September, garnering fans and surprising critics with its storyline and excellent acting.
The film, directed by Hirokazu Koreeda, is about a human-sized inflatable doll that starts to feel emotions. The innocent doll explores the outside world and finds herself in love with a video rental shop clerk. Things take a turn when the doll accidently cuts her finger and the air inside her escapes. The movie was screened at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival this year.
The Japan Academy Prize, also known as the Japan Academy Awards, is a series of awards given annually by the Nippon Academy-Sho Association for excellence in Japanese film. The 33rd awards ceremony will be held on March 5, 2010.
Bae made her debut as a model in 1998 and eventually turned toward acting. Starring in numerous dramas and films, her most famous role was in ``The Host,'' directed by Bong Jun-ho in 2006. Also a talented photographer, she has published several photo essays.

배두나 일 아카데미 여우주연상 수상
배우 배두나가 영화 '공기인형'으로 일본 아카데미상 여우주연상을 받았다고 소속사인 바른손엔터테인먼트가 23일 밝혔다.
소속사는 배두나가 '공기인형'으로 내년 3월5일 개최되는 일본 최고권위의 영화상인 일본 아카데미상에 최우수 여우주연상 후보로 노미네이트 됐으며 그에 앞서 다섯 명의 우수 여우주연상 중 한 명으로 선정됐다고 전했다. 소속사는 "배두나는 한국배우로서는 물론이고, 일본영화에 출연한 외국 배우 중에서도 처음으로 일본 아카데미상을 수상했다"고 밝혔다.
우수 여우주연상은 배두나와 함께 아야세 하루카, 히로스예 료코, 마쓰타 가고, 미야자키 아오이가 받았으며, 이들이 최우수 여우주연상을 두고 경쟁을 하게 된다.
배두나의 두번째 일본 영화인 '공기인형'은 지난 9월 일본에서 개봉돼 보름 동안 전 극장에서 매진을 이루는 호응 속에 예술영화로는 드물게 30개관에서 53개관으로 상영관을 확대해 장기상영에 돌입했다. 이 영화는 올해 칸느영화제에도 출품됐었다.
1998년 모델로 데뷔한 배두나는 연기로 돌아서 여러 드라마와 영화에 출연했는데, 봉준호 감독의 `괴물'에 출연해 유명세를 얻었다. 사진에도 조예가 깊은 배두나는 포토 에세이집도 여러 권 출간했다.
