News anchor Youn Jae-hee is one of the distinguished alumni of Seoul Women’s University (SWU).
She has worked for YTN, local television news outlet, since 2003 and is now making full use of what she has learnt at the school.
She achieved a bachelor in communications and media from the school and contributed her success to practical experiences in real broadcasting spots.
``Thanks to my professors’ recommendation, I could start working at many broadcasters including KBS and EBS. It was very a good opportunity to learn how they operate,’’ the 26-year-old anchor told The Korea Times.
Although she could not tell the special features of women-only university, the anchor was quite sure that the college residential programs at the university help the students harmonize with others in society.
``I don’t want to introduce myself as a graduate from a women-only school. However, I believe SWE graduates are very strong in collaborating with others wherever they work. Also, an intensive English program of the school, `SWELL’ helped me to improve English skills,’’ she said.
When Youn thinks about her alma mater, quiet and studious environment comes to mind.
``I was happy with the location of my school which doesn’t have a bar district around,’’ she said.
Asked about impressive lectures during her university life, Youn remembered PR class.
During class, she could work for a PR company and the company evaluated her achievement for academic score, she said.
Youn wishes SWU provide more opportunities for her juniors to learn in actual fields beyond school education.
``I want to advise my juniors to get away from stereotypes of students at women-only schools. Be aggressive and sometimes be cold rather than being quiet and mild women if you want to succeed in the future,’’ Youn said.
Lastly, Youn shared her future plan. ``I am a still cub anchor so I need to learn more and more. I hope to be a trustful and warm-hearted anchor who gives comfort to watchers,’’ she said.
