Peter Jager, CEO of Novartis Korea, was elected president of the Korean Research-based Pharmaceutical Industry Association Tuesday.

The KRPIA is an association of global research-oriented pharmaceutical companies developing new drugs. It aims to contribute to the promotion of patients' health based on top-level research and development capabilities and the latest information. It was established in 1999 with 28 member companies.

``Korea faces great challenges and opportunities as it ranks 11th in the global pharmaceutical market by size," Jager said. "Member companies of the KRPIA establish their visions to develop and provide innovative new drugs to Korean patients and thereby provide the best medical treatment options based on incessant research endeavors. KRPIA will make continuous efforts to become a trusted partner to Korean society."

Jager has been working at Norvatis for 23 years, including serving as the CEO of its Korean branch since March 2008.
