Dong-A University President Takes Office

Cho Kyoo-hyang
By Kang Shin-who
Staff Reporter

Cho Kyoo-hyang took office as president of Dong-A University Tuesday in Busan.

Cho, 66, pledged to do his best to make the school a success again, saying, ''For this, we should set clear goals and vision. Above all, I will focus on the university's basic role, education and research,''

At his inauguration ceremony, he also promised to raise more research funds and run the school more flexibly to prevent regulations from hampering development.

Founded in 1946, Dong-A has some 22,000 students at 21 undergraduate and graduate schools under 600 professors. The school has more than 150,000 graduates.

Graduating from Seoul National University with a degree in law, Cho earned a master's in public administration from Hanyang University. He began his career at the Education Ministry, later serving as vice minister between 1993 and 1996.

He also served as president of Seoul Digital University and Korea National Open University.

Attending the ceremony were former National Assembly Speaker Park Kwan-yong, a Dong-A alumnus, Pusan National University President Kim In-se and Chosun University President Chun Ho-jong.
