A Korean woman will lead global marketing for Amway, the world's biggest direct sales company, Amway Korea announced on Monday.

The company said Vice President Bae Su-jung had been promoted to global chief marketing officer (CMO), taking control of the firm's marketing, promotion and public relations at Amway's global headquarters in Michigan, the United States.

Bae is the first Amway Korea employee promoted to an executive-level position at the firm's global headquarters, according to the company.

"She was acknowledged for a series of successful marketing and promotional campaigns for the company's popular products such as Nutrilite and Artistry," an Amway Korea spokeswoman said. "One of the biggest achievements she made was building Amway's Asian Beauty Innovation Center in Seoul."

The new CMO graduated from Seoul National University. She earned an MBA degree from Korea University and doctorate in marketing and international business from Yonsei University.

She joined Amway Korea in 1995 and was promoted to an executive in charge of marketing in 2006.

Amway maintains a business presence in 58 countries. It reported $10.8 billion in sales last year, down 8 percent from the previous year.
