Dear editor,
This letter is in response to a dramatic turn in the rape case against former International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn. He has been freed from house arrest.
The case has now become rather hazy. If it is true that the hotel housekeeper has confessed that she made up a story of being raped and beaten in her homeland of Guinea in order to enhance her application for political asylum, then this casts much doubt on the authenticity of her allegations against Strauss-Kahn ― are the charges brought against him true or false?
According to the latest press reports, the housemaid shortly after Kahn’s arrest had a telephone talk with a jailed drug dealer wherein she allegedly discussed how she could profit by accusing the high profile Strauss-Kahn.
It may be that the housemaid had stage-managed the entire event and falsely accused the former IMF chief.
Meanwhile we can only hope that the court will make every effort to unearth all the facts relating to the case before passing a final verdict.
