Corporal punishment

Listen

By Havilah Iapalucci

I have worked in a number of institutes and also at a university.

I never hit my students. As an American teacher, I am forbidden to hit students in America. I maintained that policy here.

I told the Korean teachers hitting it was wrong. The students were young. It is my belief a national law needs to be passed, making corporal punishment a violation of the human rights and dignity of students at all levels. Teachers need to be trained on how to talk to students

The image I have of your students is that most are reserved, hard working, fun-loving and dedicated to studies.

Teachers need to respect the work parents have done and their students’ dignity.

The United States has a detention hall, suspension and expulsion system. I think it could work here. Perhaps on this matter an American's opinion might be viewed positively.
