Dear editor,
This is a personal response to Mr. Myers' recent Thoughts of The Times column.
Mr. Myers, your assessment of Korean Christianity is 180 degrees backward: It is because authentic, orthodox, Biblical Christianity has flourished in Korea that the nation has risen from the ashes of Japanese dominance and a devastating war with communists to a place of prominence among the nations of the world. The Church's influence on politics and social values have only lifted the people by imbuing them with a greater sense of human dignity and higher standards for justice.
Jesus indeed condemned homosexual behavior by upholding the Law and the Prophets, which He came to fulfill, not to destroy. Jesus did not demonstrate ``inclusivity" by ministering to the Samaritan woman but universal opportunity to receive salvation, which said our Lord, ``is of the Jews." (John 4).
Abortion is the taking of an innocent human life and you are in danger of grave sin deserving the harshest of judgments unless you repent from trying to associate the God and Father of Jesus Christ with abortion. God gave all women choice: Do not commit fornication or adultery and you will not get pregnant.
Lastly, your intimation at the end of your op/ed that you were a ``true Christian" and that those true Christians ``were hard to find" is gratuitous and self-righteous. You called yourself at once a liberal Christian (a contradiction in terms ― one is either a Christian ― born of the Spirit of God and witnessing to the Truth of Jesus Christ ― or not) while lamenting the dearth of ``true Christians." Readers have only one conclusion to draw from that syllogism: One must be a ``liberal" Christian espousing abortion rights and special rights for homosexuals or one is not a ``true" Christian.
You need to know that orthodox Christians who love God and love sinners enough to seek their salvation do not agree with your viewpoint and that you do not speak for us.
It is an extremely dangerous and pernicious sin to assume to speak for God and His people if the Lord has not sent you.
With prayer
John Proctor
