Dear editor,

Regarding an Oct. 18 editorial, ``Visit Korea,'' I'm worried about your opinion, because the deficit in the tourist industry is not only the government's responsibility but also that of people who live in Korea.

There are so many merchants who want to sell their products too expensively. They think that they have only one season to earn lots of money.

Therefore, they sometimes set the price of products very high. As a result, many people who have experienced extortionate prices dislike visiting places where this occurs.

Secondly, there are no advertisements for our beautiful sites, despite the fact that there are so many of them in our nation.

However, most foreigners who visit Korea know some palaces and temples and little else.

Thirdly, many Koreans think that it's much cheaper to go abroad for sightseeing than to go to visit places here.

For example, there are many people who want to play golf and go sightseeing in famous overseas destinations. Although these places are attractive and popular, they will end up spending precious dollars traveling abroad.

People who visit other countries for sightseeing need to think which is better for our nation.

We know that the country has many beautiful spots. The government and the tourism industry must endeavor to attract more foreign tourists to wonderful places here in Korea.
