Forum for learning more about Korea

Dear editor,

First I was very happy to see the column by John Redmond concerning the upcoming Royal Asiatic Society Korea lecture by Kim Dong-jin about the life of Homer B. Hulbert. There is, however, one typo that might scare people away. The cost of a lecture for non-members is 7,000 won, not 70,000 won. Seventy thousand won is the cost of a year's membership in the organization.

The RAS Korea was established in 1900 and continues to this day to be a gathering of people interested in studying the history, culture and natural landscape of the Korean Peninsula. Besides lectures twice a month, the RAS Korea organizes excursions to places of interest in Korea every weekend.

While all our activities are in English, we welcome people of all ages and nationalities who are interested in learning more about Korea or sharing with us their expertise. It brings together a very interesting group of people, including Koreans and non-Koreans. The latter group includes diplomats, professors, business people, exchange students, English teachers and various long-time residents as well as many other people.

I hope that many Korea Times readers will come join us. For more information about our activities, go to
