Time to educate sex offenders

Dear editor,

The brutal incidents, including the rape of a 7-year-old girl in Naju, have shocked the nation. Many parents had to try and reassure themselves of their children's safety and the public is furious at the recurring sex crimes.

Whenever these brutal crimes occur, law enforcement authorities are busy coming up with solutions that include toughened penalties for sex offenders, especially against children or the disabled. Some people say the government should execute sex offenders, arguing that that's the only way to prevent such heinous crimes.

However, the most important thing is to educate sex offenders so they know the mental and physical sufferings of the victims. For this reason, many experts, including women’s groups, emphasize the need to strengthen the education of sex offenders.
