Baby names

Dear editor,

Recently you mentioned that it would be preferable to choose the names Isabella and Sophia for a Korean baby. That would be a mistake as these two names are supposed to become extremely popular within three years. They will be like Jennifer and Jason in the 1970s and 80s.

If you want to give a child a distinctive name, you’d better stay away from these two names for female children.

In North America, at least, there will be many Sophia in your child kindergarten class. At some point, I had six Sarahs with different spellings in my classes and I could not tell them apart.

Unfortunately, some names become fads, making them too popular and showing a lack of imagination, or conformity among parents.
