Strengthen security over Dokdo

Dear editor,

It is imperative to beef up security over Dokdo to protect the islets against a very unlikely Japanese aggression but if South Korea has to protect them, do a thorough job of it.

I believe that the textbooks laying territorial claims to the islets were approved before the earthquake hit. However, it is terribly exhausting to continually battle Japan on this point. Remember, though, that the people who died and lost everything at the Fukushima Prefecture were not Cabinet members but poor or ordinary citizens trying to make a living.

They have shown heroism and strength in a time of agony and they deserve our help unconditionally. It is not for the survivors to pay for their country’s stupid behavior. They have lost enough, suffered enough. Come on Korea, show your superiority.

It is also extremely disturbing for adolescents to commit suicide for academic reasons. Learning should be a friendly environment dedicated to the betterment of all. There are too many pressures put on Korean youngsters to “achieve.” In the end they die from it. It is a tragedy.

To go back to the tsunami victims, one can see on photographs and films that they are poor fishermen who lost their livelihood and have no idea what is happening in Tokyo. It is better to err by being too generous rather than the opposite. Someday, these people may become Korea’s allies every time when Dokdo is mentioned.
