Real risk of global warming
Dear editor,
Recently, the Danish economist and climate activist Bjorn Lomborg admitted in his article published in The Korea Times on Aug. 16 that "global warming is real, it is manmade and action needs to be taken to mitigate its effects." But he added: "However, the facts that we are presented with do not mean that we are facing the end of the world." But here Dr Lomborg is wrong. We are facing the end of the world, and only polar cities can save us from what lies ahead 500 years from now, when over 25 billion people will die in a massive human die-off and only 200,000 people who have to fend for themselves and try to survive in polar city settlements in the far north where they will serve as breeding pairs for the human species. It will not be a pretty picture. If we do not take action now, to stop climate change in its tracks, then humankind is doomed. When will people wake up to this fact? Lomborg will never wake up to it, smart as he is. Danny Bloom Chiayi City, Taiwan danbloom@gmail.com |
