Samsung scion to be accused of perjury: parliament

By Park Si-soo

The National Assembly has decided to accuse Samsung Group Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong of perjury.

A special committee dedicated to probing the Park Geun-hye scandal made the decision on Thursday, wrapping up its investigation.

Lee said during a parliamentary hearing in December that President Park neither mentioned nor asked him to contribute to the foundations set up and controlled by Park's close friend Choi Soon-sil when the two had a private meeting on July 25, 2015.

But the independent counsel team investigating the scandal is said to have secured testimony and evidence that denies Lee's claim. And they have laid the groundwork for the special prosecutor to summon Lee as a "suspect" in the scandal on Thursday.
