A woman was seriously injured in a bungee jump after the operator failed to secure the rope to a safety hook.
The woman, surnamed Yoo, 29, plunged 42 meters into five meters of water at a waterfront bungee jump at 6 p.m. on Sept. 14 in Gangchon, Gangwon Province.
Police said Yoo hurt her neck and chest and had bruising all over her body. She would need four weeks of medical treatment, they said.
Her boyfriend, who was filming the jump with a cell phone, dropped the phone in shock and rushed to her aid.
"I felt no rebound from the rope and fell straight down into the water," Yoo reportedly told police.
"The operator made me jump without securing my rope to the safety hook."
Police found that the rope attached to her body was not properly tied to the safety hook.
Investigators questioned the site's manager over possible negligence and other offences.
