Um Tae-woong
Actor Uhm Tae-woong is under police investigation for alleged sexual assault.
Police said Tuesday a woman in her 30s filed a complaint with the prosecution against Uhm last month, claiming he sexually assaulted her at a massage parlor in the city of Seongnam, south of Seoul, in January.
The Bundang Police Station in Seongnam has launched an investigation into the case.
“Details of the case are still unknown because the investigation is under way,” said a police officer familiar with the case. “We will soon question the accuser.”
The officer refused to confirm whether the actor had been questioned.
Uhm’s agency, Keyeast, did not comment.
Uhm is the latest in a series of well-known entertainers to face sexual assault scandals.
Actor Lee Jin-woo was embroiled in a sexual assault scandal last month, but was cleared of the charge. K-pop singer Park Yoo-chun was accused in June of the sexual assault of several women, but he was also cleared.
Uhm, born in 1974, made his acting debut in 1998 and earned fame by appearing in several hit dramas and movies, including Cyrano Agency (2010), Architecture 101 (2012) and Man from the Equator (2012). He is the younger brother of K-pop diva Uhm Jung-hwa.
He married ballerina Yoon Hye-jin in 2013 and has a daughter.
