Azerbaijan calls for accuracy in media
The Azerbaijan Embassy in Seoul has announced rules for the media to consider when covering the deadly fighting between Armenian and Azerbaijan forces, which broke out over the separate region of Nagoro-Karabakh on April 2.
Following three days of heavy fighting, the two aides reached a ceasefire agreement. At least 30 Azerbaijan and 97 Armenian soldiers were killed.
Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia have been strained since 1994, when the two sides reached a ceasefire. Hostilities between the two over the region broke out in 1988.
"Respecting Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty, and the norms and principles of international law, the foreign media representatives intending to carry out journalistic activities in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan by Armenia should apply for accreditation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan in advance," an embassy spokesperson said.
The embassy said requests can be submitted to the MFA website via e-accreditation.
The embassy also advised the media to "carefully consider the accuracy of the materials provided by Armenia, which consists of misinformation, false and provocative materials and fabricated scenes, with the purpose of deceiving the international community."
